"Man smoking" ART INSPIRED BY THE GREEK COFFEE READINGS

 "Man snoking"  painted photograph

INTRODUCTION TO KATAKATHY
BY THE ARTIST EFFIE NOIFELT

The Greeks have a unique way of future telling.  They read the coffee images in the sediments of settled coffee grounds on the surface of the an overturned coffee cup.

The coffee is slowly boiled with the grounds in a "briky" which is a small bronze pot used just for that purpose.  The coffee then rises while boiling and then poored into a tiny small cup the "flitzany".  Then the Greeks drink the coffee and overturn the cup to let the sediments set on the walls of the cup.  These sediments are called the KATAKATHY.  The images that form right there are  the signs for the future and can be interpreted in so many ways as anyone likes.
Through  the art of Effie  Noifelt the Greek habit of “telling the coffee” is moving into an amazing different level.   The images of  future and fate are recognized and photographed.  Then they are isolated  and placed in a new level where they are processed by color and collages.
